🧾 Ingredients
For the cake:
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups sugar
1 ½ tsp baking powder
1 ½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 cup milk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water (or hot coffee for deeper flavor)
For the chocolate frosting:
½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened
⅔ cup cocoa powder
3 cups powdered sugar
⅓ cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
👨🍳 Instructions
1. Prep
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans
2. Mix dry ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
3. Add wet ingredients
Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla
Beat until smooth (about 2 minutes)
4. Add hot liquid
Slowly stir in boiling water (batter will be thin—this is normal!)
5. Bake
Pour evenly into pans
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean
Let cool completely before frosting

Melt butter or use softened butter
Stir in cocoa powder
Alternate adding powdered sugar and milk, beating until smooth
Mix in vanilla
Spread generously over cooled cake
